As always, the city of Long Beach, CA goes into race mode around April in preparation for it's long standing tradition of motorsports events, first on the list was Formula Drift. The track set up at Long Beach is nothing new to the drivers, as it has always been a short but sweet track layout however it can be technical in some turns if not executed correctly.
To add to the challenging track, the weather decided that Formula Drift weekend was going to be a rainy one. The drivers had to be extra cautious and bring their A game as crashes where happening left and right.
When the rain decided to stop for a while, it then allowed the drivers to get some grip and light some tires.
When the drifting action had taken a momentary break. The other half of Formula Drift was happening right behind the grand stands. The car show and vendors were all out there in full effect despite the weather.
With the battle for the podium about to commence, the VIP ticket holders were allowed to walk the track and also get up close to the drivers and umbrella girls.
The battle for 1st place commences.
The final battle for 1st place was here. The underdog, Chelsea Denofa vs 2015 Formula Drift season campion Fredric Aasbø. This was a unique battle due to the fact that this could be Chelsea's first podium win.
In the last run Fredric was not going to let up and go easy as both drivers were door to door the entire time.
A decision had to be made and the judges decided the better run went to Chelsea Denofa.
The celebratory champagne was flowing...everywhere. The podium winners where Chelsea Denofa 1st place, Fredric Aasbø 2nd place and Ken Gushi 3rd place.
Champagne on the girlfriends head? Why not.
Congratulations to the winners and see you at Irwindale!
